We all want what’s best for our parents - until they stand against us in a general election.

Sunday lunches for Tory candidate and former MP Chris Philp just got a lot more awkward after his dad was selected for Ukip in a neighbouring constituency.

Brian Philp is standing for the Kippers in the London seat of Orpington, while his son defends Croydon South just 30 minutes down the road.

Chris shied away from any fighting talk when contacted by PoliticsHome, saying: “I wish all candidates well in the election.”

But asked whether he’ll be hitting the streets to help his pa out, he said: “Obviously not.”

At the last election, the Tories held Orpington with Jo Johnson winning a whopping 20,000 majority and Ukip coming second.
