Watch: Former Conservative leader in shock rap performance.

Iain Duncan Smith has become the second Conservative MP in recent years to try their hand at rap.

The former Tory leader gave a surprise insight into his musical taste as he appeared on Good Morning Britain – and recited lyrics from Eminem’s ‘Lose Yourself’.

The shock performance came after presenter Piers Morgan revealed that Duncan Smith had been reciting the lyrics off camera. And fellow guest Chuka Umunna exclaimed: "He was rapping!"

A somewhat embarrassed Duncan Smith said: "I only said that, because you were talking about Eminem earlier on, there are Lose Yourself lyrics for Diane Abbott".

He then sheepishly recited the lyrics: "He opens his mouth, but the words won't come out. He's choking, how everybody's joking now. The clock's run out.”

By dabbling awkwardly in rap, the former Tory leader is following in the footsteps of Michael Gove who did the same as part the BBC’s News School Report project in 2014.

The then education secretary performed the Wham! Rap after one girl asked him to “give us a taster of your favourite rap”.

Gove replied: “I’ve got so many. The first rap I probably heard is one when I was younger was actually quite a vanilla rap, which was the Wham! rap, you know, with Andrew Ridgeley and George Michael.”

“Hey everybody look at me, I’ve got street credibility. I may not have a job but I have a good time with the boys I meet down on the line,” he rapped as he bobbed a clench fist to the beat of the song.”
