Jacob Rees Mogg is ‘enormously honoured’ by fan’s tattoo
Rees Mogg also invited Ross Atkinson for tea in Westminster.
Jacob Rees Mogg has expressed his delight at a man’s decision to get a ‘Moggmentum’ logo inked above his left nipple.
Ross Atkinson, a 24-year-old Tory supporter from Doncaster, unveiled the unusual body art on social media this week. He said he paid £50 for it.
Speaking to on Paul Ross on Talk Radio today, Rees Mogg made it clear he was a big supporter of the young man’s actions.
"I’m enormously honoured and flattered. It’s a great compliment. I just hope he doesn’t become a socialist when he gets older and have to change it. No, it’s a huge compliment, very flattering," said the Conservative MP.
He added: "It’s a great honour a young man should be so interested in politics, so keen about Conservative principles, that he literally wants to wear it on himself."
Rees Mogg then went ever further - by offering to take his number one fan for tea at the House of Commons.
But only after he had cruelly dashed the hopes of the dozens of Moggmentum backers who want him to be prime minister.
“I’m glad to say there’s no vacancy. I’m thoroughly supporting Theresa May. And also I’m a backbench MP and backbenchers don’t go on to leader the party…. So it’s not something that will happen,” he said.
Earlier this week, Atkinson explained what had motivated him to get the tattoo.
“It cost £50 – I paid for it with a bonus from my previous job,” Atkinson told the Guido Fawkes blog.
“I love Jacob because he stands for a lot the same things as me philosophically, but he also has the integrity to not try and change his opinions to meet public opinion.
“He also stands for a very old caring kind of Conservatism that doesn’t support unlimited individualism but understands that the state has to take charge sometimes.”
